My "Puppy Cat" Ginger!!

This video was taken by my husband a couple of years ago from his camera. I have tried several times to upload it here on Blogger but it kept telling me that it was not supported (Hell, even Facebook allowed me to post it!). At any rate, I finally figured out how to at least create a YouTube account which was the ONLY way I was able to post this video on Blogger.

Never a dull moment ...

Well, this Thursday, weather permitting, Teddy is having his neuter and front declaw surgery with our veterinarian at Conrad Weiser Animal Hospital. In preparation, I went to the pet store and picked up a large bag of paper litter - equivalent to Yesterday's News ...

What to do about Ginger? For a couple of months we have been having problems with Miss Ginger. For some strange reason, she is beginning to urinate places that she never did before outside of the box. She likes to urinate on my husbands coats in particular. Now, I know from past experience that when a cat does this type of thing, it usually means one of three things:

1) The cat box is not clean enough for them/picky.

2) Urinary infection.

3) Behavioral - mainly due to some kind of anxiety issue.

For now, we have to deal with one problem at a time. Teddy first, then make a vet appointment for Ginger. I have a friend who had a female cat who had to be put on anti-anxiety meds for cats in order to fix the problem. So, we shall see.

In the meantime, I bought a bottle of "Pooph" and some other safe urine destroyer products in hopes that it helps!!! ...

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

What's up with cats and water? (with guest Aurora Skye)

A few years ago, we had a cat who was completely obsessed with her water bowl. She used to consistantly stick her paw into the water bowl and SPLASH the water all over the kitchen floor! At first the thought that perhaps the fact that because cats generally do not like to get their noses wet she was just checking the depth of the water in the bowl. Hey, sounded logical to me. I was always under the assumption that all cats hated water because they could not swim, etc.

Then, we adopted our Merlin James, who, not only sticks his paw into the bowl, but continously dumps the water bowl upside down (even the heavy ceramic ones) making a complete swimming pool of our floors! We brought him home as a rescue when he was only about 6 weeks old. I fell in love with him immediately. What a "perfect little angel," right? LOL!

However, we basically went from THIS ... 🐈

To THIS ... 😽

"Take THAT, Ma!"
"Who?Me?"

My sister and her hubby recently adopted an orange male tabby cat named "Hammy" whom they suspect to be mixed with Abyssinian. They have encountered the very same type of behavior from him as we have from our Merlin. As she recounts:

"He enjoys sitting in the shower after either Jim or I take one, because he likes the water dripping on him, and then he licks the water off the blinds that cover the window in the shower/tub area as mentioned before. He will curl up in the sink and doesn't seem to mind even when we turn on the faucet! We fill his water bowl every day, but he will still try to drink from the faucet. He used to flip over his water bowl until we put it in the kitchen sink, so now he drinks from his bowl in the sink - at least Jim and I don't step in spilled water anymore! Finally, if we don't keep the toilet lid closed, Hammy will walk on the seat and dip a paw into the bowl. Maybe he is a water sign?"

After a little bit of research, I was able to find this helpful article:

Do cats like water?

Many cats love water, at least to drink. This is especially true of running water. Some will only drink from water that's moving, to the great annoyance of their owners. But why do cats like running water so much more than, say, water in a bowl?

The answer probably lies in survival instincts. Cats tend to seek out fresh, clean water over stagnant water, probably because fresh water is less likely to contain harmful bacteria than stagnant water is. Plus, running water just tastes better.

Because they descended from desert dwellers who got most of their water from the prey that they ate, cats can be pretty picky about the water that they drink. And cats are sensitive to the smell of water, which can quickly get stale if their bowls aren't changed frequently enough or cleaned regularly. Plus, running or moving water is just more fun.

These are pictures I took of Hammy this morning. Of course when you want him to pose, he doesn't! He enjoys sitting in the shower after either Jim or I take one, because he likes the water dripping on him, and then he licks the water off the blinds that cover the window in the shower/tub area as mentioned before. Maybe he is a water sign? ..."Hammy"

Tree Dweller or Bush Dweller?

Lady Tabitha

The other day I was watching a show on the Animal Planet channel called, "My Cat From Hell." In this particular episode, host Jackson Galaxy, talks about two different types of cats ~ Tree Dwellers and Bush Dwellers. Now, the "Tree Dwellers" are the confident cats who like to sit or lie down on the tallest, most highest shelf or piece of furniture in the house so that they, in essence,  can survey their territory and watch the goings-on in their enviornment. These are also the kitties who love to lay down on the rug in the middle of the living room while you have company, sometimes even demanding attention from either you or your guests. The "Bush Dwellers," on the other hand, are the ones who like to hide under your sofa or bed when people come to visit you in order to feel "safe" in their home.

Butterscotch & Ginger

I would have to definitely say that I have two Bush Dwellers, Tabitha and Butterscotch, and three Tree Dwellers, Merlin, Ginger, and Leo. Ginger just loves to run from person to person while she meows rather loudly at you and also insists on hogging on the sofa as if to make sure that "her" seat does not get taken! She is such a little character as she actually waits until I get up off of the sofa then literally races to steal my spot!
Leo

So, given a choice between the two kinds of cats, which one is your kitty? ;)
